JOHN DERIAN AND EYE CANDY

Decorated Gateaux

I know John Derian has received major coverage in magazines and design blogs for quite a while now, but, hey, the guy is just insanely good at what he does. His work is, well, just very appealing. A little something for everyone. His images and shapes really run the gammut.

Living so close to the beach here in Florida, I can get away with using colors that that make me happy. Between that and being an artist, no one expects me to decorate "seriously" and I take full advantage of that license, believe me! If I feel like hanging images of cakes on the wall, then bully for me! I had fun putting together a fantasy shopping list of some of Derian's decoupage pieces that would work perfectly for me here by the beach.

A Piece of Cake

Stork

Letters

His leather Moroccan puffs are just plain fun, as well as being multi-functional - these 2 were my faves.

The Pressed Sea Weed collection is gorgeous - these are just a few of the many pieces available. The piece directly below is exactly like the pink sea fans I have collected at the beach near my house.

You can shop John's website or if in Manhattan, check out his boutique in person at East 2nd Street. I even noticed that Liberty of London is carrying his work now.

  1. I have been collecting John Derian for 15 years and have an entire collection of his work when he was still signing each piece. I met him when I was in NYC a couple weeks ago and he is lovely.

  3. Every one of these is better than the last. I'd love the letter tray - to put in a vestibule and put actually LETTERS in - not junk mail! I'm trying so hard to write real letters instead of always emailing. I'm sure this would encourage me.

  4. Staring at his cake series, all day, would be a tickle & a giggle. The pink, turquoise, yellow, gosh even the browns all 50s nifty.
Isn't the best part that he indulges all your color fantasies??
Muted tones, watery images & then bamm!!! Color explosion!!!
My favorite coral is in my red post.
I appreciate your visit as well.

  8. Well I live nowhere near the beach, but since I don't take decorating seriously, I actually paintings of cakes in my guest room. 3 of them. (paintings, not guest rooms!) By Janet Hill Studio...I love her work. These ones that you are featuring are lovely too. I want that bright pink pouffy. So pretty!

And furthermore, he and his team are all really cool and down to the earth!

  13. Hi Anne,
I love his work and yet we don't see it here in Canada too much. I keep emailing him to add product to website but they never answer back. Guess i better get on the phone, maybe that will work. I live the top one. Hope your week starts off great.

  14. John Derian is definitely talented enough to deserve the ongoing hype. Those cake plates are great and I love the colors.

And whether you live in FL or no, no one should ever take decorating too seriously. :)
