AIRSTREAMS, ANYONE??

Seeing spots, but it's very dreamy in here.

I am digging this outdoor courtyard at the Grand Daddy, in Capetown, South Africa!

Looks like each trailer "home" has it's own name and mailbox.

This is their restaurant.....I am certainly not getting any Denny's flashbacks in here....are you?

Have you ever wanted to rent an RV and go on an adventure?
I have to admit, not since I was about 5 has that idea held any appeal for me. When I was in kindergarten, a family I carpooled with bought a gleaming Airstream trailer and parked it in their back driveway. I thought that it was heaven on wheels. The bathroom is what impressed me the most - mobile facilities! I couldn't get over it. I could have spent hours hanging out in the trailer, just pretending we were headed somewhere exciting. It was so cozy and the novelty of the whole experience left quite an impression on me at the time. Fast forward a few years, and for a kid cursed with motion sickness, the idea of any extended travel in a moving vehicle held no appeal. Not to mention the nasty, nubby upholstery and really bad decor in most RV's. Like those blinds Denny's restaurants used to have, that looked like someone wound dirty brown, yellow and orange yarn in between the slats. GAG.

Apparently, things have changed a bit, although, with an economic downturn and gas prices still fairly high, I am not exactly chomping at the bit to rent an RV. However, I have seen some cool examples lately that could soften my prejudice against them. This is a perfect option - no fuel or motion required! Check out this nifty hotel "village" located in Capetown, South Africa made entirely of Airstreams!

No, I have never ever wanted to rent an RV. But you you check out the amazing vintage Airstreams Ralph Lauren did for charity.

My son always wanted to do this. He would spend countless hours building models with his legos.
Looks like a fun spot to be.

Hi Anne,
Have always wanted to do a RV trip, just gas it up and go with no plan. If I had any of the airstreams, boy would that make it even better. We used to camp when kids, the airstream in the park was the best. Considered the best little house on the block so to speak. thanks for sharing, brought back some memories.

wow - this is definitely not what I pictured for RV living. It's adorable. Love the restaurant. Only problem is so little closet space :)

We saw one of those RVs that say "Rent Me" on the side the other day and I said to my 13 year old daughter..."Honey, your dad and I are going to rent one of those this summer and take you and Gray cross country on a big road trip!" You should have seen the look of horror on her face! Just kidding sweetie!

Hope you are well Anne!

Hi Anne~

Love THIS! My Grandparents owned an airstreamer for almost thirty years and traveled all over the place. I think every 5 years all air-streamers would meet for a caravan...There would be almost 10,000 trailers...all lined up. My brother and I would go with them, Lots of other grandkids all over the place. Oooh such FOND memories! :) And my grandma would bake us Rhubard pie and sauce! I could on and on...GREAT MEMORIES!!!Thanks Anne!

No interest in traveling in an RV and thought Airstreams were the ugliest of all UNTIL I saw a television show showing a complete overhall of the interior into a luxe office. Now I secretly want one in our backyard.

What a crazy, fun idea. There is something about Airstream that evokes American (though weirdly enough this is South Africa)nostalgia. In my youth it represented camping for for the "well to do"!
Great post (:

Always have had a thing for Airstreams, the ultimate mid century design designed for a classic American road trip.
That would be the way to see from sea to shining sea.

I actually love tent camping...but now that I have a little babe, rv'ing it seems a bit safer and more practical. Mobile facilities - love that! If I ever make it to South Africa, I would have to put this little mobile village on my list. Gorgeous. My favorite is the polka dotted one....love it.
