My dad has always had an artistic streak. However, for many years he hasn't really given any time to painting. Just recently, he has completed a series of small oils and I have encouraged him to keep at it. The level of detail, even in just his preliminary sketches, is amazing. His favorite subject matter right now is Mediterranean coastal scenes and I think he's got a lot of talent. He lived in Spain for a time years ago, and the Mediterranean region is a place that holds many fond memories for him. He is enjoying the creative and expressive outlet and it's fun to see what he comes up with.
Today, I am showing the first in his Mediterranean Series, "Amalfi from the Water". This is available for sale as a print on my Etsy site - if you're interested in the original, feel free to email me for more details. How about you? Did you used to paint or draw and haven't in a long time? Why not get back into it now - I think you'll be wondering why you haven't done it sooner!

Neat to see how your gift runs in the family! You look beautiful.
Amalfi is absolutely gorgeous Anne - and the detail is mesmerizing. xv
I can see the apple did not fall far from the tree.
You and your sister are blessed with a wonderful talent and a Father who looks so proud. Please tell your Dad, "Bravissimo."

You are certainly a talented family. You and your father both have a wonderful eye for color.
What fun to discover a new talent later in life, and what a wonderful daughter you are!
Oh how I love the Mediterranean coast and this scene is lovely! So glad he is getting back to his artistic passion. Thanks for coming by recently. Always enjoy visiting your site.

Very nice! You can definitely see the family resemblance in you and your father's art. I always find it interesting how family members tend to not only have similar handwriting, but also similar drawing styles. My maternal grandmother was an amateur artist and both my mother and I have very similar styles to hers.
Anne -You all are beautiful people! Love it that you and your Dad have this talent of painting in common. Love that.
Hope life finds you with a sweet smile and a happy day.

I used to be "artistic" when I was growing up. But somewhere in college, that fell of the radar. I've often considered trying to get back into some kind of medium. Nothing too difficult - pastels were always a big favorite of mine since you could smear them around and layer (all the easier to hid mistakes).
Your father's work makes me want to book a flight to Europe...something on the water of course!
Beautiful! I wish I could be in Amalfi... thanks so much for the kind words and for changing your links!

Bella! And what a great area to paint! And, you have a very lovely family!
We went to Positano, Ravello and Capri on our honeymoon. The Amalfi Coast is absolutely beautiful. You captured it perfectly. Am dreaming of going back.
Unbelievably talented family you have! The painting is inspiring!
No wonder you're such a superstar! What an amazing painting, it's so full of life. What a gorgeous family!
Great work Pops! I'm glad to see you painting again.
Great painting - reminds me of Positano.
Thats so great that your Dad is taking it back up- he is very talented, just like you!!
I never really was a painter but I have always liked doing it, I should pick it back up again though.
Anne!
Your family was blessed with an amazing "art" gene pool! Your father does great work and I know he is proud of ALL of his children.

I struggled in art classes as a child - even though my uncle (mother's twin) was a great artist, guess it didn't rub off! However, mother's artistic talents were with fabric so I did get to be a proficient seamstress/needle arts person - thanks dear mum, I miss you so!
Later I worked in advertising/commercial art - the administrative side, and eventually became more involved with brushes and pens - loved it!
Your father's painting is delightful - hopefully he will spend a lot more time brushes in hand.
Great family photo!
