THE ETERNAL CITY

I was going through some of my travel photos from a few years ago and came across this view of microscopic me in front of the gates of the Villa Borghese Gardens in Rome. Great memories! Is there a trip that you have fond memories of?

Where do I start!? My husband and I were lucky to have time to do a little traveling before having kids (they're kind of a buzz kill on the travel scene you know). And we did Iceland, Spain (twice), London and Milan (I had a business trip and he met me there). I also had the experience of a lifetime going to Beijing for work. I love visiting other countries and can't wait to do that again. We decided taht in Sept '10, we will celebrate our 10 year anniversary with a trip without the kids. Now we just have to pick where...

I have so many memories of so many holidays. Last year it was Florence and Venice. This year we are off to the Amalfi Coast. Can't wait. We had a brilliant holiday when we went down some of the East Coast of the U.S. along the Appalachian Mountains and an extra special one was having a boat on Lake Powell. Fantastic. XXXX

for me it woul have to be london and harrogate. not so much london bc the hectic pace of travel with your entire family all while carting around a jet lagged 9 month old did not make for the greatest vacation for me, especially as a first time mom who worries about EVERYTHING! but when we travelled north to yorkshire and harrogate the pace slowed down and i was able to breathe a bit and felt a sense of belonging in this tiny town. less people, lovely parks, mysterious moors..i was in a bronte novel and i never wanted to leave. luckily i am going back with the entire family again only this time my 9 month old will be 5. much better. (i hope?)

Rome is a favorite of mine and I love Villa Borghese. I wrote my college thesis on Bernini!

I went to Paris in April for the second time and it was fabulous. I never get tired of Italy or France.

I did a law school study abroad program in Malta. My husband joined me when the program was over. After Malta, we spent a week in Italy - between Tuscany and the Cinque Terre, and then a week in Provence, France. The "grand finale" of the trip was Paris. We only had about 72 hours before we flew home, so we did the "fly by" version of sightseeing. Still, I know exactly where I'll spend time one day when I go back!

Oh, I have fond memories of Villa Borghese Gardens too...we once spent a week in Rome - it was definitely one of our favorite vacations. But having been to London so many times, it is high up on my list too (my husband is British, so I'm lucky that we've visited his family quite a bit - and we always try to take a side trip... Rome, Stockholm, Amsterdam, and the Algarve in Portugal are some of my favorites... Loved that picture of you!

I love coming across old photos. It's such an easy way to escape into memories. My fond times bring me back to France...but, one of these days I'll have to venture over to Italy!

I loved Athens and the Acropolis. I had always wanted to visit it and was not disappointed when I finally made it there a couple of years ago. xv

A great trip I had was to Israel where I was part of the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem for 3 weeks. We put on the Christian celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles (Feast of Booths), a yearly celebration where people from all over the world come to participate. I was a musician - playing my 'cello - along with singers and dancers for the 3 day event.

Definitely a week spent in Vienna in the lead up to Christmas. My days consisted of breakfast at one of the many coffee shops followed by a different art gallery, I'd soak in the different paintings, sketch a few favourites, eat lunch in the gallery restaurant (some of these were actually very good) or nearby. I'd emerge late afternoon and head to Demels for cake and then would wander around one of the various Christmas Markets sipping gluhwein and nibbling on chestnuts or other goodies like a spatzel or gingerbread.

I have been to Rome too which was another good trip, that was with a bunch of people from uni and we were piled into a few B+B's around the back of the Vatican. We had lectures on foot around the city in the morning and free time in the afternoon, shared lots of pizza and learned a lot about those buildings which really came alive when hearing the stories and concepts behind them and they all seemed more interesting than you would have originally imagined.

Terrific photo Anne. I would have to say that a trip to Ireland with my father's high school's marching band to perform in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin was life changing. Sounds lame I know, but it changed my life. Thanks for asking Anne xxxdeb

Being Italian I am happy when I see people commenting with enthusiasm about my country. Brazil was a wonderful trip years ago, visiting Brazilian friends who guided us everywhere (even to Mato Grosso-Pantanal). Unforgettable, nothing better than travelling with locals.

While Paris is my favorite city in the whole world, Rome is a pretty close second. We had a delightful tour at the Villa Borghese while we were there followed by a lovely stroll through the park afterward. {sigh} I'm ready to go back!
