That sofa fabric! LOVE it.
A bright and comfy sunporch.
The strong graphic quality of the striped walls and zebra runner makes for a peppy and youthful entrance. (photos by Mikkel Vang courtesy of House Beautiful)
I must admit that I don't know a lot about design legend Carleton Varney. I was vaguely familiar with him just by virtue of the fact that I have been reading decor mags since I was about 10, but lately I have learned a bit more via other blogs and the latest issue of House Beautiful.
This man loves color and has quite a way with it. Having grown up partially in the Great Lakes area, I am well acquainted with the lake cottage subculture there and when I saw this charming home in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, I was captivated. I love cottage style and the warm informality that it exudes. So, having said that, I just HAD to post a few of the photos here. The colors, the painted wood floors and all the light soaking into the place are so inviting. An interview with Mr. Varney and a complete photo tour can be seen here.

What a great entrance! Thanks for sharing. Id love to meander around this beautiful place for hours!
I love that zebra runner! Would never use one (I once bought a pair of leopard print flats and my husband LAUGHED - very out of character for me; I returned them) but love it in that space.
this is one of my favorite houses of his - love it!
I love all the color- but those B & W striped walls in the entry- along with that sweet door and the window~ I do have a fondness for black and white. I think I'll now go take a tour ~
Have a colorful day~

I am with Debra- I am fond of b/w even though I love color. The entrway is so striking and inviting.
I like the way he mixes bright colors and took the risk. I don't know too many people with pink living rooms. It isn't only beautiful, but tells me someone confident, fun and loves the beautiful things in life-lives here. Thanks for the colorful morning. Enjoy!
I love your blog and Etsy shop. I just heard about you from the Dallas client you created the blue and white commission for. You have beautiful pieces!
The pinks, grays, and black together are very soft and yet dynamic. I love this home!
