DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN!

Lounging in the sun? Better think twice - at least it looks like he's been using SPF 70 on his face. I guess he doesn't look too bad, considering he's been around since 1581.

This shot was taken from my balcony looking down into the street - you can spot him in the center (bottom)

See what the elements can do to your skin when you don't protect yourself? This photo is of an ancient statue in Rome, Italy. It was located directly across the street from a flat I stayed in on via de Babuino. We referred to him as "Mossy Guy", but he is known as "il babuino" or "the baboon" because of his less-than-attractive appearance. He's located on the corner of via del Babuino and via dei Greci and is just one of a multitude of fountains in the city. You can read more about him and his fascinating, uniquely Italian history here. I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend!

Well, this is definitely one way to get us to use sunscreen! I don't want to look like him when I'm older, ha!

Didn't you just fall head over heels in love with Rome at night? It is absolutey spectacular!

Roma bella Roma! I love Piazza Navona and Piazza del Popolo - it's impossible to pick a favourite fountain.

I love your view-there's something about the narrow winding streets. I'm going to read about fuzzy-guy now. Have a great weekend Anne. Sunscreen- always!

In yesterday's post I put up a photo of my watch I found here! Thank you again for spotlighting it - it's so pretty!

What a great sculpture, wonder why his face remains free of moss ?? How lucky to have lived in Rome -- one of my fav cities!

I am so careful of the sun now. I love the feel on my skin, in very small doses. Oh you are really making me miss Italy.

I would get scared if I looked out the window one morning and did not know that he was a statue. Poor fellow, they mocked his appearance.

Thanks for the story and a lovely weekend to you too.

Anne,

Reminders are always welcome. We get so focused on having fun that don't remember how painful it is to get burned. Healling can take it's time and makes wiser next time, for sure.

Ha, I like your perspective on this guy. I wonder if the sun hits his head most of the day, therefore a lack of moss. The romans sure knew how to build fountains. There is a fantastic fountain across or nearby the pantheon.....hmmm... I can't remember its name...have to go look it up now.

One of my favorite things about Rome is how every street, every alley is chock-a-block full of uniqueness and history. I do wonder though why his body has degraded so badly but his face is still relatively in tact?
